Immediat ely after arriving, Wa tson notices t he queer oc currences at th e estat e and surroundi ng moors, and sen ds Holmes repor ts of w hat is going on con cerning the l ife of Sir Henry. W ill Holmes a rrive in time to unravel the m ystery, and wh o is respons ible for Sir Charles ' death and t he atte mpted murd er of Sir He nry? Is it Dr. Mor timer, neighbo r Stapleton, butler Barry man, h armless old Frankland, a mysterious wild man, or is the re a curse on t he Baskervil le family? Ve ry good op ening entry i n the Rat hbone-Bruce Holmes series (even thoug h this f ilm lacks q ualities of a ny ongoing entr ies.) The film could hav e been a bit more da rker an d foreb oding (the f ilm does have a movie st udio set feel) and have an ending with a l ittle more conf rontation to i t, but it do es provide for much fun. The romantic scenes with Greene and Barrie have little spark, but the re are ver y good red herring per formances by the cast, which is a p lus for thi s movie . Rating, 8.
