As Patricia’s daughter compels the two comrades to confront their past, history repeats itself in dangerous ways. Night Catches Us masterfully reckons with the complexity of its characters’ revolutionary ideologies and internal desires. Bell-bottoms, Afros, potlucks, and Caddies set the scene as the film potently interweaves political media with an evocative soul-inspired score,  summoning a vivid sense of place and time.
