Al ong the way h e passes th rough a gold mining Town. T he mine rs help dir ect Mortim er to the Apache and send him on his way. Mortime r enters t he forest and begins to track the Apache. Ba ck in town, the miner s un-ea rth an ancient meteor. They us e their pi ck axes to crac k it open. A s ection of th e meteor splits apar t and spore s explode out of it. The sp ore surround and infect t he entire pop ulation of th e mining camp. They are tr ansforme d into raveno us mutants. After a vicio us battle agai nst the Apache warrior, Mor timer exits t he forest with his pris oner in sha ckles. They hike back to the mining town to find them selves surrou nded by a horde of bl ood thirsty mutants.
